MUNCH F.A.Q.

What is a munch? A munch is a casual lunch with like minded folks where we can meet in a public, non-threatening environment, eat, and discuss our mutual interests. It’s a great way to share information and make friends. If you want to learn more about what munches are like, the first episode of The Big Little Podcast talks all about them: http://www.biglittlepodcast.com/2011/02/episode-1/

Also, there’s a short video on YouTube that talks about the coloring books and such we have at the munch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oZzsrPbmI0

Who can go? Can you get to the restaurant on the date and time listed? If so, then YOU and anyone you care to bring can come. The only restriction I ask is that you don’t bring any actual minors. I’d like to keep the group chronologically adult so we can keep the discussion care free and open.

Can I wear my diapers? superman underoos? latex rompers? School girl uniform? Baby reins? Yes, BUT only if you can keep them under wraps or fit in with polite society. We are meeting in a public place and need to have respect for the others who will be dining or working there.

So just lunch? That’s it?!? Well, maybe that’s it or maybe it’s just the start of a fun day spent with like minded friends. After munches, we’ve been known to organize a movie trip, go to the zoo, play mini-golf, and more. These are called the after munch Field Trip.

Occasionally we also plan play parties. These are held at a private residence. So you must have attended a munch and be known to us to attend.

What if I don’t know anyone? Well, there are a few things you can do then:

For starters, The munch is held in a public place who’s location and time are available. You could come out to the munch restaurant during the munch and observe from afar. No one will know you’re with our group unless you come up and identify yourself. So, since RSVPs are requested but not required, you’re free to join us late if you feel more comfortable.

In addition the munch hosts can come to the munch location a half hour early to meet and greet any new folks. The purpose of this will be to come out and get to know the munch hosts and possibly other new folks before the regular munch gets rolling. Hopefully it will also help you feel more comfortable.

If you’re interested in attending the first-timers meet, you’ll need to RSVP to me at spacey@TheGhidrah.com

You can also join the munch e-mail list. Post an introduction and get to know the folks there.

Ok, ok, I’ll be there. What do I need to do? Well, other than just show up, I’d appreciate it if you would send me an e-mail at spacey@TheGhidrah.com. Just let me know that you plan to attend and how many are coming with you. That way I can get an idea of how many people are coming. This helps me get the tables set out before the munch. It also allows me to let you know if any of the plans change.

I’ve always liked the munch themes, where did they go? We’re taking a break from the themes for a while. If you have theme ideas for a future munch, you can send them to Jenn at Themes@LittlesMunch.com.

I have a question not addressed here. Who can I ask? You can ask on our mailing list or send me an e-mail. spacey@TheGhidrah.com

Hope to see you soon!

Shock Radio Coverage of Frolicon / Littles

May 8th, 2011

Over Easter Weekend a group of Atlanta shock jocks sent an undercover “reporter” into the annual geek/kink event known as Frolicon. On Monday morning, during the morning show, they derided the event and the attendees of Frolicon by reading and commenting on the class list, having reporter describe his experience in the classes, calling out the littles and furries activities specifically, playing a secret recording of the Littles Story Time, and pointing listeners to a Facebook page with pictures. One of these pictures was of an age player at the con with her face half-covered by a coloring book. The commentary was typically mean, focused on sex, called littles a substitute for pedophilia, and made fun of the weight/size of the attendees.

Fortunately the Frolicon lawyers stepped in right away and with the help of others had the photos taken down from Facebook. However the audio remains. This show did a similar piece about an Atlanta con called Furry Weekend Atlanta just a few weeks prior.

Because shows like this thrive on the attention they receive by creating this shock content, I have chosen not to post any links to it nor to even  name of the show. If you wish to learn more about how to access it you may email me directly: spacey@theghidrah.com

This show may anger you as it did me. However, I want to urge you not to contact the show’s producers, offer to go on the air, nor do anything that puts our response to this on their terms. They have already demonstrated that they are in this for ratings through denigrating others. They clearly aren’t interested in journalism nor multiple perspectives. It’s a show about sensationalism and any attempt to approach them only legitimizes them and gives them more fuel. If you’ve been thinking about this, PLEASE DON’T!

After talking about this incident with a few regular munch attendees and leaders, we have agreed on taking the following actions:

1. We have a description and picture of the person that made the undercover recordings and pictures. He will not be welcome to attend this munch.

2. We are working with the munch location to request they eject anyone we indicate are causing us trouble.

3. We are calling attention to our current photography/video/recording policy: there is to be no photographic, audio, or video recording at a munch without the express consent of everyone included in the recording. Anyone caught doing this and failing to delete the recording when requested will be ejected from the munch or play party. Please keep your eyes open for this.

One important thing we are NOT doing is going into hiding. We may act young. but we are grown adults, capable of taking care of our own. We will not cower in the face of bullies looking to get their “yuks” and “lulz.”

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to me contact at the email address I gave above.

What’s in the Munch Box?

November 28th, 2010

I’m frequently asked what the munch is like. I like to tell them “It’s Wonderful!” Accurate though that answer might be, I can understand why folks might feel it to be an insufficient reply.

It would take a really long time to talk about all the things I think make the munch wonderful. Instead, I’ll try to bite off a little piece of that question by showing you some of what goes into the munch. In this case, the Munch Box. It’s a box that goes to every munch and has stuff that helps us create our festive munch atmosphere.

Below is a little video I made to show and tell you all about it:

2010 November Munch Recap

November 26th, 2010

Thanks to all the great folks that turned out last Saturday we had another great Littles Munch with a new record, some amazing art work, and lots of conversation and hugs. We had about 30 people come including a few new faces and some that hadn’t visited in a long time.

The record we set this time is going to be a really tough one to beat. It was previously held my a munch attendee that travelled all the way from Hawaii. This time though, the record to beat for the furthest distance travelled to attend the munch is all the way from Singapore. Since that’s pretty much on the other side of the planet from the munch, the next person to beat it is going to have to visit from another planet. :)

As often happens, we had some amazing artist among the munch goers this month. One of them decided to share his skill by making some line drawings for a few of us. For me, he drew a a great picture of my little girl side. I scanned it and colored it in:

Tavi's drawing of Angelica made at the Atlanta Littles Munch

Drawing of Angelica

I know at least two other folks got a drawing too.

After the munch, a few of us headed back to Mommy’s and my place to play video games and card games. Mario Party on the Wii seemed the most popular. Everyone had fun playing and and cheering.
